Driver physiological monitoring in vehicle is of great importance to provide a comfortable driving environment and prevent road accidents. In recent years, the development of non-contact techniques for such monitoring has been drawing research interests. In this paper, we present a non-contact video-based driver physiological monitoring framework to robustly acquire driver’s heart rate and heart rate variability analysis using a simple consumer-level webcam. More specifically, a real-time facial feature detector as well as a joint blind source separation method is used to capture the driver’s facial blood volume pulse signal. Although modern cars are equipped with advanced technologies to be faster, more comfortable and safer, one essential piece of the driving system, the driver, is missing in the picture. Among the physiological measures used for wellness purposes, heart rate variability has been shown to be directly associated with mental and physical status, and is easy to measure. Recently, there has been increasing interest in low-cost, non-contact and pervasive methods for monitoring physiological information for the drivers. For the intelligent driver monitoring system there has been so many approaches like facial expression based method, driving behavior based method and physiological parameters based method. In the existing system, Contact measurement such as electrocardiogram (ECG) will cause inconvenience to the measurement and discomfort to the driver, non-contact heart rate detection brings convenience to the driver. In this project the system proposed a real-time heart rate and respiratory rate detection systems. The system verified that the designed real time measurement system is effective. Finally, conclusion is summarized.
