Description
Student Note taking is a fundamental learning activity that should be practiced by every serious secondary or post-secondary student. Research has shown that the mental processing that occurs during note-taking helps students consolidate and retain classroom instruction, even if they never study their notes afterward. In order to improve student’s learning, it is important to understand how students learn outside the classroom and to support each student’s individual needs. In this paper, learning processes and learning outcomes were analyzed in association with the learning record data of student notes, for lessons centered on learning activities creating notes. By using the data log, it was possible to quantify and visualize how a knowledge network was constructed using notes. In addition, deep learning with an awareness of the relationship between different types of knowledge enhanced self-assessment of understanding.
