Wireless sensor technology is playing a vital role in many of the commercialized industrial automation processes and various other real life applications. It is particularly suitable for harsh environment applications where deploying of other network infrastructure is difficult and/or almost impossible such as in battlefield, in hazardous chemical plant, and in high thermal environment. It is not uncommon to see that most of the crucial surveillance and security applications also rely on sensor based applications. A wireless sensor network (WSN) (sometimes called a wireless sensor and actor network (WSAN)) are spatially distributed autonomous sensors to monitor physical or environmental conditions, such as temperature, sound, pressure, etc. and to cooperatively pass their data through the network to a main location. WSN technically and economically feasible to be widely used in both military and civilian applications, such as monitoring of ambient conditions related to the environment, precious species and critical infrastructures. In general, energy efficiency in wireless sensor network is a major concern for the cross layer design methodology. Hence the proposed system uses a different network structure for clustering process. The network is created by randomly distributed sensor nodes with a static sink and the nodes are divided as clusters in different layers. Simulation results shows that the proposed network topology is efficient for transferring the data.
