Internet has become an essential part of the daily life for billions of users worldwide, who are using a large variety of network services and applications every day. However, there have been serious security problems and network failures that are hard to resolve. Network traffic measurement is the process of measuring the amount and type of traffic on a particular network. This is especially important with regard to effective bandwidth management. Network performance could be measured using either active or passive techniques. Active techniques are more intrusive but are arguably more accurate. Passive techniques are of fewer networks overhead and hence can run in the background to be used to trigger network management actions. Increasingly, sophisticated network measurement tasks such as anomaly detection and security forensic analysis are requiring in-depth fine-grained flow-level measurements. In this project, the system presents a centralized optimization framework called LEISURE (Load-Equalized measurement). This framework is used for load-balancing network measurement workloads across distributed monitors. LEISURE distributes traffic measurement tasks evenly across coordinated monitors subject to ensuring that the required fractional coverage of those tasks can be achieved.
