Most VANET applications are built upon the data push communication model, where information is disseminated to a set of vehicles. In vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs), vehicles transmit traffic and safety-related information, including traffic congestion-avoidance messages, accident warnings and accident reports, etc., which assist drivers in making proper decisions to avoid vehicle collisions and congestion. Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) are created by applying the principles of mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) – the spontaneous creation of a wireless network for data exchange – to the domain of vehicles. They are a key component of intelligent transportation systems (ITS). As VANETs exhibit several unique features such as the high mobility of nodes, short connection times, etc. conventional security mechanisms are not always effective. Consequently, a wide variety of research contributions have been recently presented to cope with the intrinsic characteristics of vehicular communication. To enhance the efficiency of verification, a new ID-based signature scheme is proposed that allows batch verification of multiple signatures to mitigate gang injection of false attack threat. It allows any pair of users to communicate securely and to verify each other’s signatures without exchanging public key certificates. With the advent of Digital Signatures, has come the need for verification of signatures. But the human thirst for wanting and power never comes to an end. Many applications require the verification of a lot many signatures in a short period of time. The native method of verifying signatures (i.e. verifying each signature separately) is not sufficient to meet the requirement of such applications. Thus the need came for Batch Verification of Signatures. The aim of using batch signatures was to verify many signatures in a batch so that the verification time required for this process is much less than that required for the conventional method.
