    Description
Wireless mesh network approach is used for accessing the internet in multi – hop transmission. Multi-hop WiMAX networks are particularly useful as they increase the coverage area without the need to deploy expensive base stations. There are two kinds of multi-hop WiMAX networks – WiMAX mesh and Mobile Multi-hop Relay Networks. Scheduling is very important in both of these multi-hop WiMAX networks. The links have to be scheduled in such a way so that they do not interfere with each other while maximizing the throughput of the networks. Two modes of operation had been defined: point-to-multi-point PMP and Mesh. In the former, subscriber stations (SS) connect to the base station BS that manages the entire network and allocates the resources (wireless channel, time slots) among different SSs depending on their traffic requirements and classes of service being implemented. As WiMAX networks are geared towards broad band applications, any scheduling scheme should accommodate the rate, latency and jitter requirements of the applications. In order to achieve the fast, cost-effective network deployment, handling of mesh subscriber station is required to prevent from failure. The node failure is overcome by using a new technique called Multi-Sponsor mechanism. This will enhance the reliability of multi hop communication path in the network.
